Social Policy and Administration, University of Nottingham Newly Qualified Solicitor in Commercial Disputes

“Every firm seems to talk about giving early responsibility; at Taylor Wessing, it’s the reality. In only my second week, I travelled to Nice to meet a client and get documents signed, which I then took to Paris for a meeting. It was brilliant to know the firm had such confidence in me. Since then, I’ve worked solo on many important tasks, such as interviewing witnesses, managing a disclosure exercise, even giving training sessions to partners.

“It’s often said that there’s a huge leap from trainee to newly qualified solicitor, but Taylor Wessing prepares you thoroughly for the jump, not least through the variety of seats. In Corporate Commercial and Projects, I helped a partner specialising in hotels with a number of deals from due diligence to completion. In Trade Marks, Copyright and Media, I worked on litigious matters for the first time. My third seat was in Commercial Disputes, where I focused on a pension schemes fraud involving £52m. Now, in IT, Telecoms and Competition, my work ranges from property matters to litigation issues, and I’m seconded for two days a week to one of our clients, PartyGaming. This has been fantastic for my development and it’s testimony to the superb relationships we have with our clients.”
